1) You read about an entrepreneur: I chose to read about Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, Ashlee Vance
What surprised me the most was how relatable and down to earth Elon is. He was brought up through humble upbringings in South Africa, and it surprised me because most entrepreneurs are wealthy and successful through generational wealth.
I mostly admired how most of his ventures as an entrepreneur are a direct result of how smart he is. His companies, Tesla, SpaceX, Solar City, and The Boring Company are all directly owned by him and are a direct result of his ideas and inventions.
I did not admire how his marketing tactics work. Although I can always appreciate a forward thinker, Elon's ideas seem t always be too farfetched, and sometimes he should be a realist.
Elon failed multiple times in terms of sales for Tesla and SpaceX launches, but he always persevered and never listened to critics who told him his ideas were too outlandish.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
I noticed that Elon has the ability to make something out of nothing literally. His ingenuity when it comes to producing a new and original idea and his ability to market and sell his product or business make him a successful business man.
3) The part of his sale of Paypal was a bit confusing to me. Even though I know Elon made his fortune through the invention and later sell of Paypal, it was unclear what his motivations were to sell such a successful company which is now valued at a much higher price.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
I would ask how he manages to handle owning multiple billion dollar businesses at once, and why he is always on twitter.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
Elon based his life on working hard and persevering through failure. Although for Elon, it may not seem like hard work because of his love and passion for everything he does.
Hey, Adrian!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting, I also read about Mr. Musk, so we definitely share a lot of takeaways. I, too, found his marketing tactics to be a bit worrisome and impulsive. I like what you said about Elon's ingenuity, that's something I didn't think to include! It is seriously impressive seeing one person building multiple, massive companies within a very short amount of time.
