9a- Testing the Hypothesis Part 2
Who
There are people that do fall outside the boundary of my opportunity. The idea of a service and good that is used to filter out fake news and also decide and report the credibility of news sources to user and consumers is not one that would be used by everyone. For example, I interviewed a working mom who explained to me that she did not care for the service because of her lifestyle. Being that she is busy with work, her kids, and her home, she does not really care for using her time to analyze credible sources of her news or news that pops up on her social media. Likewise, I interviewed a football player who thought the same way, he simply did not care for the opportunity and although he thought it was a good idea, he was not interested in it whatsoever. To try and reach the other spectrum, I interviewed a liberal arts Political Science major, who told me that he is against the service, because at the end of the day if the idea reaches mainstream success news outlets and companies may be able to buy their credibility. He also told me that he is already very well aware of the news sources that provide viable and accurate news. These people fall outside the boundary for a variety of reasons, but the main one is that they do not feel like the service would do them any service since they either don't need it because they don't care, or because they already know where their news is coming from.
What
This need is unique in its own way, while many people already have a way of trusting their selected news source, this brings into the account actual professionals and different scientific and mathematic algorithms to filter out online news resources.
Why
There is a difference in the need of this service for different people. The main ones that they do not feel like the service would do them any service since they either don't need it because they don't care, or because they already know where their news is coming from and are knowledgable enough to where they do not need the service.
Inside the Boundary
Who is in: People who need a service that allows them to view the credibility of the news the read and watch.
What the need is: The need is for credible news, and to stop the misinformation by news stations that are bias and selective in what they report.
Why the need exists: People like to be informed, and not misinformed.
Outside the Boundary
Who is not: People who do not care to watch the news, or are already knowledgable about their news sources.
What the need is not: There is no need for a service that does research for them because they do not care enough for the service.
Alternative Explanations: Maybe people do not want to know if they are being misinformed.

Adrian,
ReplyDeleteDespite coming as kind of a complex project, your idea is pretty original. The way you have analyze it too. One of the positive aspects of your idea is that the minority that is not interested in the service could be think of it as ignorants. After all, who would prefer to be be misinformed? The algorithm to filter out the news and confirm they are real sounds like a great idea for the project. Great work overall
