27A Reading Reflection No. 3

How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, Scott Adams

1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? The theme and argument of this book was that the path to success is not smooth nor is it easy, and that there will be many downfalls and many failures in your path to achieving your goals.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? Yes, the connection with success in failure is hand and hand and that is something that this class has not only taught me but has elaborated on. It enhanced that many entrepreneurs go through several failures before achieving their opportunity.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve? I would make students reflect on some of their biggest failures and get into as much detail as they can about it. Then have them right how they bounced back from that failure and what it taught them.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations? I was surprised by how many entrepreneurs are faced with failure in their life and do not always have things go their way. I thought that number was relatively low but after reading this and hearing failure stories it gave me self confidence for my own future.

I agree that this book connects with ENT3003 because of the connection with success in failure is hand and hand and that is something that this class has not only taught me but has elaborated on time and time again.

  2. Hello Adrian,

I for one am exceptionally inquisitive about perusing this book after your post. I really perused it and adored the book as well. I concur that this book associates with ENT3003 in view of the association with achievement in disappointment is hand and hand and that is something that this class has encouraged me as well as has explained on schedule and time once more.

  3. Adrian,
I actually just read this book myself, so I'm glad that others are reading it. I found it quite enjoyable, and somewhat humorous that I decided to read it the same week that we were assigned to write an assignment based off of failure. I suppose the biggest difference between our posts is the biggest aha moment, as mine came when I was finally able to understand what he meant by, focus on the path not the goal. Great post.

  4. Hey Adrian,

I also read this book for a past reading reflection and really enjoyed it. I think this book goes very well with the course because this class teaches you that many entrepreneurs experience failure before they achieve success. I also like the exercise you created based off of the book, it would definitely help students learn from their failures.
